Your dog is perfectly happy being the center of your attention, or, if you happen to own more than one dog as many people do, your puppy is happy and secure in his place in the “pack” that is your family.  But what happens when a cat is introduced into the mix?  Many pet owning households have mixed families of both cats and dogs, and despite all their differences, these pets can and do get along famously.  (Sometimes the indoor pets will disagree on which channel to watch because of the huge number of choices in modern direct tv packages and cable channels, but just let the alpha have the remote and that problem is solved.) 

Often, the cat will have lived in the house already for a long time before a new puppy is introduced, but the reverse might also be true.  If you are bringing a new kitten home to live among your canine companions, knowing the differences and likenesses of cats and dogs can help you anticipate the right behaviors to encourage to build trust between them and a lasting, loyal friendship that will make having a mixed pet household lots more fun.  Check out this infographic for more:
